Welcome to MAWAA

The Mid Atlantic Wheelchair Athletic Association is a Non-Profit 501 (c) (3) organization relying on the fund raising initiatives of its members as well as charitable donations by community partners. We enrich the athletic opportunities for individuals with neurological/orthopedic disabilities who use and do not use a wheelchair. The Mid-Atlantic Wheelchair Athletic Association (MAWAA) was established on February 13, 1973 under the name Virginia Wheelchair Athletic Association. The mission of this organization is to provide information about sports and recreation opportunities for persons with physical disabilities and to provide competitive opportunities for the same. The Mid-Atlantic Wheelchair Athletic Association sponsors Paralympic style games each year for persons six years old and older with permanent neurological/orthopedic disabilities who could benefit from athletic competition. The association also sponsors and coordinates an area wheelchair basketball team, Shenandoah Valley High Rollers.
